In-person Seminar: The Business Reinvention of Japan – Lessons for Europe
with Prof. Ulrike Schaede

Join us at the Clayton Hotel in Düsseldorf for “The Business Reinvention of Japan: Lessons for Europe”, a seminar with Ulrike Schaede, professor at UC San Diego, expert in Japanese corporate strategy and external advisor for Japanese companies.
As global markets evolve, Japan’s quiet but powerful corporate transformation offers timely lessons for business and policy leaders. In her acclaimed books The Business Reinvention of Japan and Japan Re-Emerges Prof. Ulrike Schaede explores how many Japanese companies have shifted from manufacturing commodities to becoming indispensable providers of upstream materials and input into global supply chains.
Drawing on her extensive research, including insights into redefining strategy through the lens of the sumo “Mainoumi,” which emphasizes tactical brilliance over brute force, Ulrike will offer perspectives highly relevant to Europe’s rapidly evolving tech and industrial landscape.
The session will feature Prof. Schaede’s presentation, followed by a dialogue with Toru Takahashi, President of GLOBIS Europe, and an open Q&A. The evening concludes with a networking reception over food and drinks.
