Trond Varlid

Biography:

Mr. Trond Varlid has extensive international marketing and senior executive experience from Europe, the US, and Asia.

His career includes fifteen years in corporate banking in London and Tokyo, two years as Japan country manager for an Asian online wealth management company based in Singapore, and seven years as President of Tomra Japan. Tomra Japan is an environmental technology joint venture between Sumitomo Corporation and Tomra, a pioneer and global market leader in sorting technology for materials recycling.

As President and Cofounder of EMC Quest KK, he helps business professionals in Tokyo become better presenters and communicators. He also coaches executives on dealing with difficult management, HR, and personal challenges.

He is currently also Program Director of the JMEC Business Training Program in Tokyo, a unique hands-on training program for mid-career business professionals operated by eighteen foreign chambers of commerce in Japan.

Various skills and knowledge are required to be successful in business. Arguably one of the most difficult skills to master, however, is managing and dealing with people.

Are leaders born or made? Why do people and organizations tend to resist change? How can you bring about necessary change in your team or organization? How do you empower and motivate your team to be successful and achieve the best performance?

These are some of the key themes we will cover in our Organizational Behavior and Leadership class—and I look forward to your active participation. See you in class!
