What made you decide to pursue an MBA?
My primary motivation for pursuing an MBA was to elevate my career to the next level. I wanted to build analytical skills that weren’t part of my undergraduate and graduate studies, positioning myself as a professional adept at managing complexity and delivering value.
After evaluating several part-time MBA programs, I found GLOBIS to be the best fit. What set it apart was its strong focus on practical learning instead of being heavily research- or academia-oriented. I wanted to acquire skills that I could immediately apply in real-world situations, and GLOBIS emphasized this from the beginning. Reflecting on my experience, I’m confident that I made the right decision.
How was your experience with the part-time program?
I made an effort to attend as many on-campus classes as possible to enhance the learning experience and build meaningful connections with classmates. Balancing a full-time job, personal life (I became a father during the program!), personal projects, and studies was challenging at times. However, the flexibility of the GLOBIS MBA allowed me to adjust my course load based on my circumstances. I could take on more classes when I had the capacity and scale back when needed.
Which classes were the most valuable for you?
Looking back, the classes I gained the most from were also the ones I found most difficult. For example, Accounting and Finance, as well as Business Analytics, were particularly challenging because I had limited prior knowledge in these areas. Initially, I felt overwhelmed, but the challenge motivated me to put in extra effort to catch up.
These courses taught me the significance of adopting a data-driven mindset. Inspired by this realization, I took additional advanced classes in these subjects. Over time, my understanding and confidence in these areas grew significantly. Today, this mindset has become a core part of how I approach decision-making, and I consider it one of the most valuable outcomes of my MBA.
What was your biggest takeaway from the GLOBIS MBA?
While the hard skills I gained were invaluable and a key reason for pursuing the MBA, the most profound impact came from developing my kokorozashi—a personal mission. The program pushed me to articulate a clear purpose, complete with actionable steps, timelines, and contingency plans to bring it to life.
I realized that technical skills only matter when they serve a larger purpose. The concept of kokorozashi taught me to align my skills with a mission that gives them deeper meaning. This experience has been transformative, helping me create a concrete vision for how I want to apply what I’ve learned and shape the life I aspire to lead.
